I have just finished this book and can't help but be impressed by how the Author has got it so right!

As a Professional Relationship and Sex Education Facilitator and Trainer of Children, Teenagers, Parents and Professionals I see day by day the effects that the cocktail of the net, pornography and consumerism is having on our Children. The majority of Parents and Carers are blissfully unaware ~ many falsely priding themselves in that they know nothing of the net and computers! I love Tanith's analogy that we are not protecting our children now in the way that in Victorian times it was considered ok to send them down the mines and up chimneys.

I have delivered Education for Relationships and Sex since pre-net times, questions we were asked then were so different and yet ironically so many are the same. There is so much confusion out there for girls (and boys), this book helps Parents and Carers begin to understand how so different it is for today's teenagers and how important it is to have and keep those conversations going. In class those who are able to talk to their Parents and Carers about sex are momentarily teased but then obviously envied, the Author is right again when she says that children pick up your body language so perceptively. Where Parents have shown embarrassment or any negative responses even unknowingly this seems to be the red light and children won't risk asking again.

Many Parents feel completely unprepared to discuss many things of a sexual nature with their children, I like the ways this book gives background, facts, slots it into a familiar context and then offers practical tips. I have a recommended reading list for the Parents I work with, this is definitely going on the list! 10/10

PS Does anyone know of an equivalent one for boys?

it is often obvious but she writes in such a clear and sensible way that it is excellent reading. I would make it a must for any mother with a daughter - even if only to reassure you that you are doing the right thing..........

This is definitely one of the best parenting books i have come accross. Very well written, with clear facts and good research data. Very deep insights into young girls behaviour and thinking. What's really useful is that the book is full of advises on how to deal with today's challenges facing our daughters. I already advised all my friends who have daughters to read a copy of this. Would strongly recommend it.

This book really is excellent and I'd recommend it to any parent of girls. The style is easy to read and its actually full of practical advice rather than lots of philosophy with no substance to back it up. I am planning to buy this for friends who have daughters too. Highly recommended.

I would heartily recommend this to all parents of young girls- this book gives revealing insights into how our girls are having their innocence stolen at an increasingly young age, as they are targeted by, including other influences, a celebrity fixated media. Tanith Carey challenges us as parents about the values that we give our daughters and reassuringly gives practical suggestions about supporting your daughter into having enough self- respect and confidence to resist the pressures of the crucial 'tween' years. A must-read!

A very illuminating book that helped me acknowledge my daughter's emotions and feelings. It equipped me with the language to guide my daughter through playground behaviour and better understand the issues that lie ahead. There are also some excellent suggestions on how to create a secure and healthy home environment around food, TV and media. Society today puts a lot of pressure on young girls and the message we give our daughters today needs to be clear, confident and reassuring.

This is much more than just a book about protecting girls from growing too fast. It's a must-read for any mum or dad looking to raise happy and confident daughters.

I loved the fact that Tanith Carey offers not only a detailed analysis of the problem and its underlying casuses but also a practical guide that every parent can use on a day-to-day basis. The book is packed with tips on how to guide girls through the formative 'tween' years covering subjects from school politics, to friendships and self-understanding. Tanith has done an amazing job of collecting vast amounts of information from parenting specialsits, psychologists and researchers to help understand the problem and its impact on our daughters.

Some of the facts are shocking, for example the reasoning of young girls to undergo plastic surgery procedures. But it just underlies the severity of the problem and the fact that we as parents can not afford to ignore it.

I found the book empowering especially in the part where it shows what every parent can do to stop marketers, media and companies from sending the wrong messages to our children. Padded bras for seven year olds? Pole dancing kits for kids? Thanks, but no thanks!

Early sexualization is a hotly debated topic and one that the Government is actively involved in. However, for me the main message of the book is that it's up to us parents, to look after our girls and help them deal with the pressures of growing up too fast. And this book show us how.
