Amazon.co.uk Review
Beyond Dying explores our isolation from dying, and our struggles to make sense of what lies beyond our individual lives. Twenty years ago Ted Harrison came close to death when kidney failure was diagnosed. This experience equipped him to write authoritatively about dying. That he is a veteran journalist, broadcaster, TV producer and author means he has the gifts and experience to discuss the topic vividly and powerfully. Harrison marshals an impressive amount of research, drawing from news reports and religious and academic studies as well as personal anecdotes, stories of dying and near death experiences. Although this book is often moving, it is not for those who want neat religious inspiration in the face of death. Harrison writes from a Christian viewpoint but steers clear of a completely religious approach, dealing objectively with a whole range of beliefs, superstitions and theories about death and the afterlife. As such it will help those who believe there is something more, but are uncertain about the details.
Beyond Dying is an excellent resource for clergy, health professionals, counsellors and anyone else involved in the moving and mysterious process of death and dying. --
