Minella, a strong but orphaned school mistress is down on her luck without anyone in the world, when she is given the opportunity to visit France. However France is on the brink of turmoil, as are Minella's feelings for the father of her charge.
I have been reading and collecting VH books for years - in fact since I was 13 (i'm now 26). This, and the Demon lover, are my favourties. The hero is flawed, as is the heroine, but they fall in love anyway. VH is a guilty pleasure, she's no literary genius, but she's easy to read and enjoyable. I can go back her books whenever I need an injection of romance.
