Synopsis
A moving and rousing story about a child under-going a major operation facing his fear and triumphing. Lying in his hospital bed, Jim worries about being put to sleep before his operation. What if the doctors send him somewhere that he can't find his way back from? Nurse Bami says his finder will come looking for him. Everyone has their own finder; Jim just has to find his. And deep in his dreams, he does: a lion. But when the time comes, will Jim's lion be able to find him and bring him safely home?

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique and beautiful book for children facing surgery, 2 Feb 2002
By A Customer
When Jim faces life-saving surgery, he's frightened that he may never wake up. But with the help of his nurse, he finds his keeper, the lion, and goes to the operating theatre knowing he'll be there to help. I wish we'd had this book when my son faced a series of operations and so does he. It should be in every children's ward alongside a box of painted stones for young patients to hold.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jim's Lion - reliable and strong, 25 Jan 2006
This review is from: Jim's Lion (Hardcover)
Jim's Lion is a great book for children who, for whatever reason, have to be in hospital and need something to cling to while in a foreign, frightening environment. The main character, Jim, has to have surgery. Clearly understanding the life-threatening situation he is in, he is afraid, of course. When Nurse Bami provides him with a piece of African wisdom (that every person has a "keeper" who will be a reliable guide and companion through every difficult situation in life) and a stone to hold on to (psychologically and literally), however, her story and Jim's belief in it become essential for his recovery. If your child ever has to go to hospital, this might prove a good source to qicken recovery!
