I cant beleive you actually have to pay for this. I have no beef with the actual walkthrough (it is perhaps substandard though) but if you are one of those many many people who want something out of the game, this book is awful. Every part of the game other than the main story, and some parts of that too 8(, have boxes attached to them saying if you want to find out how to....go to Play Online.com. In fact, the only comment i was surprised not to find was If you want your Final Fantasy IX guide go to Play Online.com and enter the keyword:WASTEOFGOODMONEY.

The problem with this startegy guide is that well to be frank it serves no purpose. Sure it guides you through the game and gives you hints and tips, but, and this is a big but; the actual really important information isn`t conatined within the book is contained on a website that you access using passwords within the relevant chapters of the book.

This defeats the purpose of a strategy guide book, the reason its in book form is so you can sit and read it and have it to hand when playing the game, having to look up important sections on the internet defeats the purpose of buying a book.

True the guide does work well, as a handy reference and aid to completing the game, but most people buy and use this type of guide not to finish the game, but to be able to find and unlock all the obscure secrets hidden within a game, and this guide just does not tell you how to do that.

1.0 out of 5 stars A complete waste of money., 4 Mar 2001
By A Customer
The front of the guide has the somewhat dreadful 'Enhanced by PlayOnline.com' squeezed in at the bottom. 'Enhanced' is not really the word - 'destroyed' seems a better choice to me. Sure, the guide is very well presented - plenty of pictures, details of weapons and monsters, but it's the actual content of the walkthrough that concerns me here. Every time you come across a little side quest, a part of the game where you can gain some useful items, or somewhere where an alternative strategy can be employed, up pops the little blue box, directing you to PlayOnline.com, armed with a keyword, if you want to know more. If I wanted to spend the majority of my time sat in front of my computer typing in keywords to a website, do BradyGames really think I would have shelled out for a paper-based guide in the first place? If you're quite happy to use your PC for game help, I'd direct you towards using one of the many useful guides available from the likes of gamefaqs.com. In future I think I'll be sticking the the UK releases of the Final Fantasy game guides.
