Product Description

Product Description

An alien probe of unknown origin launches an assault on Earth; an attack so devastating that Enterprise is recalled from her voyage of exploration to help with Earth's defence. During the journey home, Captain Jonathan Archer receives intelligence that the origin of the probe is a little-known region of space called the Delphic Expanse. Vulcan Ambassador Soval informs Archer that the Delphic Expanse is notorious for bizarre occurrences, and few ships that enter it are ever seen again. Believing there will be a second attack, Archer convinces Starfleet to let him take Enterprise into the Delphic Expanse to seek out this mysterious new enemy. In doing so, he will be going against the Suliban, the Klingons, and the Vulcans, who are removing T'Pol from the Enterprise as a result. What is more, he will have to deal with a cadre of battle-hardened marines and their no-nonsense colonel who have been assigned to his ship.

He was a Xindi warrior, of his culture's highest class, and out of a sense of decorum he had worn his ceremonial armor on this, his last mission, though he would not need it, and though it could not protect him from his fate. Read the first page

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read, 5 Feb 2004
The Expanse is actually a pretty good book, telling the story of the episodes The Expanse amd The Xindi. It is very loyal to the script, but goes into more detail, and tells us how Archer was feeling about meeting a Xindi as well as how Trip felt about losing his sister. It also examines T'Pol's decision to leave the Vulcan High Command, and so provides a far greater depth to the characters.
My only complaint is that I would have liked a little more between scenes and extended scenes in the book, like the Broken Bow novel, but, overall, it even does this, including some deleted scenes from the episodes (a perticular highlight when I was reading it). In the end, The Expanse is a very enjoyable book that provides a greater insight into the characters at the start of their new mission.
