Product Description

A new sect of demons is after one innocent human, while an imposter is taking on Angel's role and setting up shop in his place. An otherwise peaceful day at Angel Investigations is disrupted by the sudden arrival of a desperate young man with a demon at his heels. When the team destroy the monster it decomposes on the spot, leaving them no clues as to either its identity or its agenda. Nor is the young man much help -- he has already been the victim of a stolen identity scam in which someone pretending to be Angel has left him with a deep suspicion of the real thing. The ancient stone he possesses could hold some answers, but he's none too keen on handing it over for strangers to examine. Meanwhile Lorne reports a seriously bad feeling emanating from Caritas -- normally a haven where demons of all persuasions can relax -- and Angel is increasingly disturbed that someone else has borrowed his persona for purposes unknown. As things become ever weirder, is it just random chaos or is everything connected? And will the real Angel please stand up...?

Doranna Durgin is the author of seven fantasy novels the first of which, Dun Lady's Jess, received the 1995 Compton Crook/Stephen Tall Award for the best first novel in the fantasy, science fiction and horror genres.

The start of the book is interesting, looking at a new civilisation of Demon called the Tuingas and how during a daily ritual of cleaning, an object of devastation falls into our dimension. This Warrior Stone, contains the emotions, felt by the warrior who wore it as he died. Now all the Demonic creatures of LA are slowly going mad by the stone's emissions of anger. Even Angel is not immune to them.

As Angel feels the anger building up inside him, he keeps it a secret in order to maintain the team's newly developed sense of trust with him, after he had betrayed them by firing them. As the team start noticing normally peaceful creatures cause violence, should Angel tell them or work it out on his own?

Not only does he have to contend with this uncontrollable anger but his own impersonator who is trying to help people using Angel's name and reputation. He can't understand why he has this "fan" but doesn't have time to ponder it as the city needs saving from destruction. Can Angel save the demons from the stone? Can he save the city from the demons? But more frightening to Angel: can he save his friends from himself?

This book is full of action and Angel is at his brooding best. Angel's still trying to gain the team's trust back after his dark time with Darla so his angry feelings are causing a problem, especially when he trys to attack Gunn in the middle of a battle. The action is blockbuster and the plot and character development won't let you put the book down. Can't wait to see what Doranna Durgin comes up with next.

Nice well written book. A nice twisting plot. Angel at his best, having to really fight the demon within himself without letting the gang know. A very good read, I enjoyed this one a lot. I don't want to say too much about the plot....go read it yourself, you'll not be disappointed.
