Product Description

Product Description

There were things at Teind House that strangers must never find; things that must be kept concealed from the prying world at all costs ...Selina March has lived in the remote Scottish hamlet of Inchcape, with its mysterious Round Tower, for nearly fifty years. Brought up by elderly relatives, long since dead, she now lives alone, shunning the outside world. But when she reluctantly accepts a paying guest, Selina's secluded life will change for ever. Crime writer Joanna Savile has come to Inchcape to research her latest novel by interviewing inmates at Moy, the asylum for the criminally insane situated nearby. Her secret aim is to question former child murderer, Mary Maskelyne, Moy's most infamous patient. Joanna's prying will yield unexpected results. For, although they have never met, Selina March and Mary Maskelyne are connected by a shared family tragedy: a terrible act of unspeakable cruelty that took place in India fifty years before. And there are secrets in Selina's more recent past, too. Secrets that are about to be uncovered with the most devastating and horrifying consequences ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, 10 Nov 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Tower of Silence (Paperback)
A stunningly atmospheric book that grips the imagination long after reading. All characters are wonderfully developed, the emotions frighteningly palpable and the settings are beautifully crafted and darkly realistic.
The most psychologically disturbing book I have read.
I can`t wait for her next book!

4.0 out of 5 stars A terrific thriller, 20 Oct 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Tower of Silence (Paperback)
Sarah Rayne has written a thriller with echoes of Minette Waters, and I can't give much higher praise. The past affects the present in a number of ways, and her characters zing off the page. There is a real sense of unease, and almost horror, as the denouement approaches.

A great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Winner, 4 April 2005
By A Customer
I'm so glad to see this book long-listed for the Theakston's Literary Award. It's a great read that cleverly and seamlessly blends past and present. Sarah Rayne has a gift for creating vivid and believable characters and I strongly recommend this book to all who enjoy the genre. I am looking forward to more releases from Ms Rayne and, yes she certainly gets my vote for this one
