Product Description

Egypt, 17th century B.C. In the north, the barbaric Hyksos still rule with unimaginable brutality. Queen Ahhotep, meanwhile, has recaptured much of the south - but at a terrible price: her husband killed in combat and her elder son, Kames, mysteriously poisoned. Ahhotep refuses to be crowned pharaoh and prepares instead her second son, young Amose, to take power. But it's thanks to her that the Egyptians are now ready for the final battle. They lay siege to Avaris, the Hyksos capital - and once the city is taken, nothing further can stop them. After 100 years of occupation and thousands of violent deaths, it looks as though at last the Egyptian empire will rise again from the ashes - all thanks to the courage and determination of a woman.

5.0 out of 5 stars Egypt at its grandest, 14 May 2003
The third and final book of this series of three beautifully ties up all the loose ends while delightfully mixing historical Egyptian fact with fiction to bring ancient Egypt alive. As with all Jacq's books, the fact is so perfectly blended into the diverse and intruiging story that you don't realise where fact ends and fiction begins. He brings alive characters such as Quenn Ahotep with such beauty that Egyptian society feels like something you can reach out and touch. Fabulous story, perfectly written and well worth reading! I read the whole series in a week as I couldn't put them down and have now moved on to another Jacq series, Rameses.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably bad!, 3 Aug 2004
By A Customer
Allegedly a bestseller. I got to page 40 before giving up!

I enjoy historical novels and have read a number of excellent books set in ancient Egypt. This cardboard book, pitting the wicked ugly Hyksos against the beautiful virtuous native Egyptians is simply ludicrous in its formulaic characterisation. One dimensional plot, zero dimensional people.

Avoid!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Heroine! A Goddess! A Fascinating Tale of History., 19 Jun 2004
By N. D. Harmon "ndharmon" (Baltimore USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Volume three in the "Queen of Freedom" trilogy finds the Hyksos invaders under the Emperor Apophis commanding the North of Egypt while the Thebans under Queen Ahhotep have retaken much of the South. With her husband Seqen killed in an ambush and her eldest son Kamose poisoned to death a dangerous Hyksos spy still remains among the Thebans and a threat to ultimate victory. Nonetheless, Queen Ahhotep places her young ten-year-old son Ahmose on the throne. With this move the Egyptians are ready to rebuild their forces and lay claim to the final battle at Avaris the Hyksos capital.

With a century old occupation of Egypt the Hyksos have killed people beyond count now chaos arises amongst the Hyksos elite with rivalries and murders for dominance.

Queen Ahhotep increases the Egyptians chances for victory by using a main force used against them by the Hyksos the horse drawn chariot. Only the Egyptians modify this weapon to better suit their purposes. In addition, Queen Ahhotep risks her life to seek a formidable ally in this struggle for freedom.

Egypt will rise from the ruins steered by the guiding light called Ahhotep.
