Product Description

Product Description

The first original novel based on Enterprise, the brand new Star Trek television series. An original adventure starring Captain Jonathan Archer and the crew of the very first USS Enterprise: Chief Engineer 'Trip' Tucker III, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Phlox, Science Officer T'Pol, Communications Officer Hoshi Sato, Tactical Officer Malcolm Reed and Helmsman Travis Mayweather. In their first few weeks in space, Captain Archer and his crew have already discovered several new species and explored strange new worlds. Each new planet brings new discoveries and new dangers: none more so than the curious planet half of which is inhabited by the Fazi, with their highly regulated culture in which strict protocols govern everything from their conversation to the design of their buildings. After a disastrous first contact with the Fazi, Archer must depend on the diplomatic skills of Vulcan science officer T'Pol and the linguistic talents of communications officer Ensign Hoshi Sato to help him mend relations with the people of this planet and unravel the mystery of the other beings with which they share their world.

1.0 out of 5 stars Enterprise By The Book - Please Burn this If book, 18 Aug 2002
By Mr President "POTUS" (Glasgow) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
I have finished reading some of the reviews on the book and can't believe there arent more people complaining about it. It is beyond a doubt the most pointless and boring star trek i have ever read.

Sometimes when books have a lousy first chapter i keep at it, it does sometimes get better. Not this one. The crew kept playing this boring role playing game. WHY? I don't know. I thought this would pan out and the book would stay on the story it was supposed to tell. I was forced to skip entire chapters to avoid the pointless dribble from the least important and frankly worse characters i have ever seen. The sort of characters that are best left in the background and only mubble when being asked to deliver or do something.

To Trekkies everywhere i plead with you not to buy this book. It is so boring. You should only buy this book if you are a die hard fan of Enterprise, or your so loaded with cash that you need to spend some money. Otherwise do not buy, i certainly regret doing so.

If this is the best Enterprise has to offer, then how did it get out of drydock.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is a BBBBOOOORRRIIINNNGGGG book, 3 Jun 2002

Every one else has given this five stars - I didn't and why they have I don't know.

I do not like to criticise authors who write for Star Trek - but once in a while (usually making me move to write about it) there is just a book that doesn't even reach the level of interesting in my standards of reading. (I have a collection of 150 of the best Star Trek books written).

This book is about the Enterprise (NX 01) which just so happens doesn't appear in any Star Trek history or 30 years of established production standards.

This book centres on finding two new races on one planet - but instead of doing anything at all making this a good book - all they did was argue about protocol.

THAT'S IT - the only thing else was a role-playing game occupying the crew during this totally boring book.

I had to keep checking that it was by the Star Trek famous duo and editors called DEAN WESLEY SMITH & KRISTINE KATHRYN RUSCH, that's right. These great barons of stories, suburb describes of the star trek world. They have written a kind of book that is so boring that it wouldn't be submitted as a character development script in VOYAGER session 2 (noted for the most boring episodes in Star Trek history - almost cancelling the whole new concept). If this is the level of new Enterprise books that are wanting our money then I'll stick with the classic (and linear time) books that even new authors can make the best I've read in comparison to this pitiful 252 pages. It seems to be leading to something so great to enthral you the whole book - BUT IT NEVER CAME.

The action was destroyed under T'Pol and Archer arguing about protocol and what actions they should take.

I have seen the TELEVISION series and the writers have put everything needed to make them good. - They have used all their experience with the other series to make them witty, exciting and involving (time line disruption and highly advanced Klingons not withstanding) but this book has no right to be the second in the line.
The first book (by Diane Carey) made from the premier episode had all the things that make the episodes good and the books great!

THIS BOOK DIDN'T - DO NOT BUY UNLESS FOR A SLEEP INSENTIVE.

Once again - I don't like writing this - but buying this is a mistake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 8 Mar 2002
Having been a fan of Enterprise from the beginning. I was overjoyed when this book was released. It actually took me approximately 2 days to read it, I could not put it down. Very interesting, accumulative and great with the characters. I would certainly recommend this book to all Enterprise fans out there.
