The first is Midshipman Harrington, almost long enough for a book in itself, it is a must for David Weber Honor Harrington fans unless you already have "Changer of Worlds" where it has also been published.

"Islands" by Eric Flint - A Belisarius Story is a lovely tale written tale about Calopodius and his wife. I have not read any of this series yet so I do not know if he is a main character. But I intend to find out.

"Choosing Sides" by David Drake is a typical Hammers Slammers short story and another good read. As usual with this mercenary army there is plenty of action.

Even if you prefer full length novels as I normally do, I can recommend this book.
