Product Description

Product Description
The definitive guide to the entire Star Trek: Voyager series. This fully illustrated companion is absolutely packed with must-have information, including seven years of episode guides, original photographs and character profiles. All the main characters from the series have extended coverage, with actors giving personal insights and inside information on their roles. Every episode -- more than 170 in total -- is discussed in detail, each one accompanied by data points on the crew, the ship and its place in the Delta Quadrant. Plus there is a special index which features short summaries of all the episodes for quick and easy reference. Additional features include a particular focus on favourite themes which figure strongly in the Star Trek: Voyager universe, such as Captain Proton, Time Travel and Contact with the Alpha Quadrant. The book is packed with black and white pictures, including many on-set or behind-the-scenes photographs seen here for the first time. Starting with the Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion, which set the benchmark for Pocket Books' series companions, and continuing with the Deep Space Nine Companion (described by SFX as "the reference work fans have been waiting for, and the best non-fiction Trek book to date"), readers have come to rely on these books as the ultimate viewers' guides. Now it is the turn of Star Trek: Voyager fans to be delighted by the sheer wealth of Voyager facts and background this latest volume contains.

About the Author
Paul Ruditis has written and contributed to numerous TV-related books on hit shows including The West Wing, Roswell, Star Trek: Voyager and Enterprise.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pales in comparison to other companions, 9 Jun 2003
If you are looking for endless behind-the-scenes info and photographs, a humourus writing style and lots of jokes and witty comments, then this book is definetely not for you. However, if you want lots of facts and information that can be learned just by watching the episode itself, a monotonous writing tone, and very little behind-the-scenes stuff, of which all can be found on any obsessed Voyager fan's website, then this book is for you.
Unlike the previous 'bible' that is the Deep Space Nine companion, this book provides very little of what companions are all about, a pitiful amount of behind-the-scenes stuff and a writer who seems to have no personality and clearly did not know what Voyager was really about.
There are useless sub-titles after each episode description, including Shuttle's Lost and Captain's Logs, all the information of which was clearly gained from studying the episode itself. All the pictures are from the episode itself. There are no behind the scenes photographs or interesting information.
However, the writer's bible from season1 with extra commentary was an interesting read, as well as some informaiton on alien races. But it definetely isn't any competition in comparison to the other Star Trek companions. You'd think the writer would only have to copy the style of one of the other companions and the book would be a hit, but no. Instead the writer chooses to completely change the style into what is essentially a boring one.
I seriously doubt that there will be a re-release as Pocket Books has announced that it is seriously cutting down on the Star Trek reference books published in the future.
Paul Ruditus clearly had no idea what to do with the companion, which is a shame because Voyager was a good show and it definetely deserves better than this.
Why not check out the book "Delta Quadrant: The Unnoficial Guide To Voyager" by David McIntee. It has lots of cool facts and bloopers in the show, some behind-the-scenes stuff, but unfortunately it has no pictures and only goes up to the end of Season 5.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Companion that was left out., 1 Aug 2003

Most consider this to be the worst companion of all, in some ways it is. It doesn’t have any ‘behind the scenes’ notes or cast interviews, and that is a shame. Nonetheless, this companion is a great episode guide, it has info on what Voyager came across, what is happening where, damage reports, … A lot of info, but all the things we already know, and that isn’t what we need.

Though, some people might be a bit hard on this, but it’s understandable when they come back from reading the DS9 companion. As said before, the episode guide is very guide, a lot of information on voyager and the space around it, it just isn’t a real companion.

4.0 out of 5 stars My fave companion, 19 Sep 2003

Unlike most of the other reviewers, I actually prefer the Voyager Companion for the simple reason that it has a decent episode guide. The Star Trek encyclopedia as far as I'm aware only goes up to Season 5. Not good. However, there are two areas of improvement: cast interviews and colour photos (on set, actors in and out of make up etc)plus any funny stories that may interest the reader. Perhaps even actor biography. Those aside I like the Voyager Companion because the information outside of the synposis is quite interesting and not found in the TNG Companion. So overall, I will admit room for improvement- list of Voyager books published so far and voyager merchanise could be added, but still a good guide for those who don't care for behind-the-scenes boring talk- ie love the fantasy and not how it was made.
