Product Description

Amazon.com
The Feller sisters are equal but opposite. Maggie is the good-looking, dyslexic little sister who knows how to get anything she wants--but not how to keep it. She "felt as if somewhere between the ages of fourteen and sixteen she'd walked off the edge of a cliff and had been falling ever since." Rose is the plump, practical, responsible older sister who knows about law but not much about her own happiness: "What did she like, besides shoes, and Jim, and foods that were bad for her?" When Maggie's latest eviction lands her in Rose's apartment, and Maggie insults Rose by seducing one of her sister's rare boyfriends, what follows is a chain of events by turns hilarious and heartbreaking. Embarrassed Rose evicts Maggie and begins a work sabbatical leading to a new livelihood and way of living. Maggie flees and runs away to Princeton. Masquerading as a student, she learns to love poetry and saves money for a trip to Miami--and a visit to a long-lost grandmother named Ella who might offer her a last shot at sanctuary. But In Her Shoes, the second novel from Good in Bed author Jennifer Weiner, is about more than the sisters' latest sibling rivalry; Maggie and Rose must sort out the childhood vulnerabilities and family mysteries that still linger two decades after their mother's death. In less capable hands, the plot might grow corny, but Weiner's humor and affection for the characters ultimately helps them transcend both neuroses and grief and learn the redemptive power of love. --Jane Hodges --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description
Rose Feller is thirty years old, a high-powered attorney, with a secret passion for romance novels, an exercise regime she's going to start next week, and dreams of a man who will slide off her glasses, gaze into her eyes, and tell her that she's beautiful. Meet Rose's sister Maggie. Twenty-eight years old, drop-dead gorgeous and only occasionally employed, Maggie is a backing singer in a band called Whiskered Biscuit. She dreams of fame and fortune -- and of getting her dowdy big sister to stick to a skin-care regime. These two women with nothing in common but a childhood tragedy, shared DNA, and the same size feet, are about to learn that their family is more different than they ever imagined, and that they're more alike than they'd ever believe. Funny and poignant, richly detailed and wrenchingly real, In He Shoes will speak to anyone who's endured the bonds of sisterhood, and to everyone who's dreamed of trying something else on for size.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is NOT what you think, 9 Feb 2003
By A Customer
I eagerly awaited the second novel from Jennifer Weiner, after reading and devouring her first offering 'Good In Bed'. The only problem with both of these books are the attrocious 'blurb' and book covers, which do nothing to allay the fears of this being another 'chick lit', girl meets boy, predictable story. For those who are put off by these factors, please try to look past them, and you will find intelligent fiction which is a true pleasure to read.
I almost didn't want to read the second book, as I was put off by the blurb, thinking I had definitely read this story, or some amalgamation of it, somewhere before. However, I am glad that I did.
'In Her Shoes' tells the story of two sisters, Maggie and Rose, who could not be more different. With this kind of plot, it would be easy to fal into the over used cliches, but the author manages to make the characters original and true to life. There is a sense of reality in both books, both deal with human problems and do not sugar coat them. The characters are not 'drop dead gorgeous' or 'stunning' (with the exception of Maggie), which makes the whole thing easier to imagine and understand. The story is a simple one, but one which is written with such skill that it seems fresh and untold.
Whilst I would recommend the book to anyone, I didn't find it as engaging as 'Good In Bed'. It is just as good and a more than adequate second novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars For sisters everywhere, 15 Jan 2003
By A Customer
I read Good in Bed and loved it, so I was looking forward to sitting down with In Her Shoes. And I nearly didn't get up again. It's one of those books that you want to read walking down the street or under your desk. I even thought about taking a sickie. The sisters Rose and Maggie are totally different, but are both fabulous and involving characters. Their relationship is so real it made me wince (and start to think about forgiving my sister). And the grandmother and friends in Florida are hilarious. Basically - funny, sad, involving and so brilliantly written that you don't even realise you're reading. If you enjoy this, check out Jennifer Weiner's weblog on her website - she's very cool and funny. If you don't enjoy it, well, you can't be my friend.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment!, 22 Jan 2004
When I had finished reading Good In Bed I couldn't wait to read more by author Jennifer Weiner but I must admit In Her Shoes really didn't touch me at all in the same way. It's very predictable and I didn't find my self laughing or crying at all like I did when I read Good In Bed. The characters are dull and it's not unique like Good In Bed is. I hope her next book is better.....
