Product Description

Synopsis

A riveting psycho-thriller with unforgettable characters: the serial killer, the psychiatrist he kidnaps, and the world-weary FBI agent who is in pursuit. The man in the prison cells calls himself Max. He admits to killing the cop who found him sitting in a car beside the still-warm body of a disembowelled young woman, but he claims to be suffering from DID, the multiple-personality disorder that is a common alibi for the worst criminals. Assigned to assess the truth of Max's defence is strawberry blonde psychiatrist Irene Cogan. When Max masterminds his bloody escape from prison and kidnaps Irene, he agrees to undergo a course of therapy, during which Irene is introduced to a succession of his alters - his alternative personalities. To her alarm, it seems that one of them has a distinctly unhealthy penchant for strawberry blondes. And it looks like it will be up to FBI Special Agent E.L. Pender, who has been on Max's trail for over a decade, to find them before Irene discovers exactly what that penchant extails...

5.0 out of 5 stars Jonathan Nasaw is brilliant, well worth a read, 2 May 2004
By A Customer
My taste in books ranges from early Cornwell, Kathy Reichs, James Patterson, Karin Slaughter etc but this book was by far the best book I have read in years. It was well paced and detailed enough to satify the more gruesome amongst us. In short I couldnt put it down. I went straight out and bought the next book 'Fear Itself' which was also absolutely fantastic! I am now waiting impatiently on my order for the latest Nasaw '27 Bones'.

This is one of the best books i've read, slightly disturbing at times but that is what adds to the excellence of this book. I couldn't put it down, was up til 5 in the morning just to finish it. Really Great book

5.0 out of 5 stars You won't be able to put it down!, 13 Feb 2002

This is a great psychological thriller. The characters of the DID 'vicitm' are intriguing, frighteningly so, despite their personality traits! The development of the story draws you in and provides a clear explanation of DID disorder, which aids in your understanding and enjoyment of the book. You will fell empathy and support for the characters, as they face the horror that meets them, reminding you why not to walk alone or go off with strangers!!
