Ali is the child of a famous film star who gave up a million dollar film contract in order to have her only child. Ali is now known in the media as the million dollar baby and every significant birthday the glamour mags come along to find out what she's doing.

Ali owns and runs a chocolate store "Decandent Delights" in the little town of St. Maggie (Magdeleine). She makes sumptouous chocolates. She also has monetary interests in the cafe and the B&B. Ali is perfectly happy doing that, she does not want her business to grow bigger, she is happy with it as it is.

Ali's mother, the ex film star, also lives in St. Maggie, has a pet pig that she takes for walks on a lead, and lives for the day that her only child will marry and produce grandchildren for her. Like all good, loving mothers she loves meddling in her daughter's life.

Along comes Matt, a handyman with issues from his past - ghosts he can not lay and so runs from.

Ali, who has a heart of gold and a carer mentality, has a reputation for taking in stray dogs and stray men. Unfortunately, most of the latter have hurt her. The last one stole her till money and $20,000 from her credit card. How long is it before she will take in the too thin Matt, who obviously hasn't been eating and looking after himself? What is Matt's secret past life and why won't he tell her?

An enjoyable, heartwarming story with many endearing side characters including Miss Sylvie, the pig.
