Product Description

Product Description

A novel of love, loss and artificial intelligence as Data -- among the most popular, paradoxical and intriguing characters on Star Trek -- uncovers the truth behind the destruction of another android. When a new android created by Starfleet is apparently destroyed in a freak explosion, Lieutenant Commander Data and the crew of the Enterprise-E embark on a search for the truth and find themselves thrust into a crossfire between a secret group of ancient androids and the immortal android maker, Flint. Along the way, Data is forced to confront issues of grief, love and immortality as we explore the nature of artificial intelligence and what it means to be human in the Star Trek universe.

About the Author

5.0 out of 5 stars Brillant - I literally could not put the book down, 5 Mar 2002
I have always loved Data, and so when I was recommended this book based on his character, I couldn't wait to get it. I was a bit sceptical at first, as I did not believe it would be as good as the series, having never read one of the novels before. How wrong I was! I found this was well written and related to both the Original Series and The Next Generation perfectly. Once I started reading, I could not put the book down, and read it from cover to cover in one night, although I only ended up getting 2 hours sleep!

The book gives an insight into the creation of Artifical Intelligence, and sees Data coping with the emotion of grief, the fact that he may not "die" for a long time, developing intuition, finding love, and discovering that no matter how long he will live, he should make every moment he has count. This is a great motto for all of us.

I found this book utterly exciting, and a must for die hard fans like me! I was glad that Data had finally been given a plausible love interest, although the bit where she is trying to save him, and exposes her real identity at that time had me on the edge of my seat. This book is a definate must have!

Keep on Trekking!
