This book took me a few chapters to get into as it was first sci fi novel. I loved the style of the book and the introductions to each chapter. The characters were very well though out and believable. I am glad that I read this book and it has given me impetus to read mpre sci fi. I have only given it four stars because it finished far too early for my liking but even so - it was a really good read. It made my time waiting in Leeds train station seem too few and i never thought I would say that!!!!

I make it a point to try books from as many female science fiction writers as possible, since they are so much amoung the minority and tend to put a different slant on old ideas. That's why I bought this book, and I'm far from disappointed. Janine Ellen Young has written a tightly-plotted hard sf novel with the unusual additions of well-drawn, sympathetic characters, and an almost whimsical central idea of a planet wide dream to build a bridge to the stars.

Discovering Janine Ellen Young reminds me of how I felt when I discovered Kathleen Ann Goonan - another author to tell everyone about, and to collect her books.
