Product Description

Review
Few writers are as absolutely consistent as the excellent Colin Forbes. For many years, his name has been a guarantee of quality in the thriller field, and his yearly novel (a contract Forbes maintains with his grateful readers) never disappoints. Such is the case with Blood Storm, one of Forbes' darker and more disturbing outings. The theme is slightly futuristic - the Cabal is a powerful group with the aim of inaugurating a police state in Britain. But there are men who stand against them: Tweed and Paula at the SIS are fighting the concept of State Security, an amalgam of all the forces of law (and repression). At the same time, Tweed is handed a difficult assignment: he is to investigate the death of the beautiful, well-connected Viola Vander-Brown, savagely murdered. But before Tweed can utilise his ex-Scotland Yard skills, Viola's sister Marina meets a similar fate. And as society faces a seismic change, the possibility of Blood Storm - a slew of horrific murders - beckons. Forbes ensures that the details of this ever-grimmer society are brilliantly freighted into the police procedural narrative, with Tweed and Paula solid, well-rounded protagonists. (Kirkus UK)

Product Description
Tweed and his dynamic team face one of their biggest challenges yet. Not even the most sophisticated security systems nor the most experienced counter-terrorist czars can stand up to a force that threatens the whole of Europe. Tweed rarely experiences fear or doubt, but is almost overwhelmed when he has to make a seemingly impossible decision about one of his own team. Loyalties are tested to the limit in this topical, fast-paced, highly tense new thriller from Colin Forbes.

1.0 out of 5 stars So Bad I Threw It Away, 11 Jan 2006
This review is from: Blood Storm (Paperback)
I'm a paperback junkie and I've never read a book this bad. I threw it away in a public trash can before I got a third into it because I couldn't take any more, and that was knowing that I was out of books. And I've never thrown a book away, much less not made an honest attempt to finish a book regardless of quality. Mainly the plot was just so completely unbelievable - not really because it was far fetched but because the author made a zero effort. Really - are we to expect that the head of British SIS commands a four person office (yes only four people in his organization) and this comprises one fifth of the entire British security force? And an entire nation is about to be swept into an entire police state scheme by three people that are themselves so stupid that they keep noticing over and over again that the door to their "inner sanctum" is ajar and people are listening in, but they never think to actually lock the door during subsequent sensitive scheming conversations (when again it is left ajar). I kept picking it up literally because I had not been to a book store and didn't have any other books to read - and was forced to keep turning pages - really just skipping whole sections trying to see if it would get better, but it didn't. If I had read these reviews you couldn't have paid me to take the book off your hands.

2.0 out of 5 stars Is Colin Forbes losing his touch?, 23 Nov 2004
By G. C. Rudge "Dogs" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As an avid reader of Forbes' previous books I have to admit that I was bitterly disappointed with his latest Tweed & Co novel.
I noticed a few technical areas (type of cars used etc) and also found the plot a bit thin. His previous novels have always held my interest until the final solution. Blood Storm managed to telegraph the likely outcome so very early on. Has Mr Forbes fallen prey to getting a quick book out prior to Christmas and sacrificed his normally enthralling, fast paced thriller?.
I will leave you to judge, but for my money this book was not up to scratch.

1.0 out of 5 stars Blood Storm, 30 Aug 2005
By Peter Smith (Kirkcaldy, Scotland) - See all my reviews
I'm under duress when I award one star to this - ?novel. A male 'Barbara Cartland' would seem to identify this guy's style.
There's no grammar, no plot, no credible story line and no continuity. You cannot read this kind of writing - you merely limp through it.
I strongly doubt that the English would get a GCSE pass if put to the test.
It's a page turner right enough - but only because one cannot really believe that something so badly written could possibly be published. They should be sued for fraud for describing the book as an 'international bestseller' - it's an affront to literature.
If you really, really fancy the book then try the public library - but don't, whatever you do, buy it.

I saw the negative reviews before reading the book so my expectations were very low. The book wasn't as bad as I expected, but I can certainly see why people didn't like it. Read more

Quite simply, this book did not deserve to be published. Colin Forbes should be thoroughly ashamed. I did get to the end, then threw it in the bin. Read more
