Review
Few writers are as absolutely consistent as the excellent Colin Forbes. For many years, his name has been a guarantee of quality in the thriller field, and his yearly novel (a contract Forbes maintains with his grateful readers) never disappoints. Such is the case with Blood Storm, one of Forbes' darker and more disturbing outings. The theme is slightly futuristic - the Cabal is a powerful group with the aim of inaugurating a police state in Britain. But there are men who stand against them: Tweed and Paula at the SIS are fighting the concept of State Security, an amalgam of all the forces of law (and repression). At the same time, Tweed is handed a difficult assignment: he is to investigate the death of the beautiful, well-connected Viola Vander-Brown, savagely murdered. But before Tweed can utilise his ex-Scotland Yard skills, Viola's sister Marina meets a similar fate. And as society faces a seismic change, the possibility of Blood Storm - a slew of horrific murders - beckons. Forbes ensures that the details of this ever-grimmer society are brilliantly freighted into the police procedural narrative, with Tweed and Paula solid, well-rounded protagonists. (Kirkus UK)
Product Description
Tweed and his dynamic team face one of their biggest challenges yet. Not even the most sophisticated security systems nor the most experienced counter-terrorist czars can stand up to a force that threatens the whole of Europe. Tweed rarely experiences fear or doubt, but is almost overwhelmed when he has to make a seemingly impossible decision about one of his own team. Loyalties are tested to the limit in this topical, fast-paced, highly tense new thriller from Colin Forbes.
