Product Description

Instead of Jane Tennison immortalised by Helen Mirren in PRIME SUSPECT, think Anna Travis in ABOVE SUSPICION, Lynda's wonderful new creation of a female detective for today. A rookie detective, Anna is about to embark on her first murder case - and it couldn't be a more serious, more gruesome series of murders. The killings began eight years before; now the body count is up to six. The method of killing is identical, the backgrounds of the girls very similar - all of them prostitutes. As the book opens, a seventh body is found, same modus operandi but the victim this time is a young student, sweet, innocent, with 'the face of an angel'. Anna stumbles on a vital piece of information which links one man to the killings. But that man is a household name, a well-known and much-loved actor, with charm, good looks and the gift of the gab. Denial springs easily and confidently to his lips; his protestation of innocence is convincing. What if he is arrested, in the face of huge publicity, and he is the wrong man? This is Lynda La Plante at her best, creating a compelling, charismatic new detective in Anna Travis, and bringing to vivid life on the page a completely gripping crime thriller,

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! I could not put this down, 5 Sep 2005

The last few LLP books I have read haven't been great so I started this one with trepidation - after page 1 I was hooked! I stayed up half the night reading and blamed the fact that I had bags under my eyes on my 11 week old son. Suffice to say after doing the motherly duties, I kept on reading and had the book finished within 24 hours <i know, i know, terrible mother!>. It reminded me of Prime Suspect, LLP at her best but I felt this was better. I sincerely hope she caries on with this character as she is just great. I am already looking forward to her next book

5.0 out of 5 stars What would it be like if Robson Jerome were secretly a serial killer?, 31 Aug 2007

No, just messin, but seriously, La Plante comes up with a fascinating plotline. A serial killer is afoot and he might just be a very well known and well liked actor. It's up to young Detective Anna Travis to get to the truth. But, is she getting too close to the suspect?

I can't really picture Hugh Grant, for example, as a serial killer, but La Plante paints a convincing picture. It took me only a morning to read this book, so hooked on it was I. Enjoy!

(If I had to put money on an actor that could turn into a serial killer, it'd probably be Brad Pitt- way too convincing in Kalifornia!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Above Suspicion, 30 Oct 2005
By David R Hanley (Broxbourne, Hertfordshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Above Suspicion (Paperback)
This was the first book I have read from this author and very good I found it too. A very easy read and fast-moving story although finding a few legal errors were disappointing. Read it on and off over three days and would certainly read more by this author again.
