3.0 out of 5 stars Unfulfilled potential, 2 Sep 2004
It's a real shame that this book wasn't better, as it is such an appealing premise. The characters feel somewhat flat - both Lucas and Neo have little depth; the plot meanders; the novel never takes flight as one hopes.
The author can obviously write - there are some passages which are disturbing, amusing, uplifting. But it's not quite the 'Great Novel of London Immigrants' that I hoped it would be. A good editor and six months more work would have helped.
Still, it'll probably make a good TV series if a decent screenwriter gets their hands on it.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Unnumbered should be Untouched, 29 Oct 2004
By Technologic (London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This is one of the most annoying books I have ever read. The language was poor, the characters were shallow and the storyline was ridiculous. This was a wasted opportunity as the concept could have been good.
Do not buy this book unless you want to suffer !! All seven of my book club hated it !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Moving Reality, 12 May 2004
By A Customer
North's book evokes an aspect of modern Britain that many people would like to pass by. But the depth of observation, the immediacy of description and the passionate storytelling make this a gripping tale of true young love in a desperate world. The story rises to a spine chilling climax, which could be ripped from today's headlines - or the small print on a back page - because the dispossessed aren't very interesting? This book will open your mind and heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great first novel.
This is a fantastic first novel. It provides an insight into a way of life most of us never experience, through great characterisation and plot. Read more
