Product Description

Review

From the bestselling author of The Blue Day book comes an uplifting look at the perennial search for Mr Right told through a delightful mix of retro images and wise and witty words. An extraordinary collection of rejection letters sent by publishers to now famous writers is sure to entertain and delight readers. Includes rejections of le Carr , Orwell and Joseph Heller. Dedicated to prisoner FF8282 and designed to help fill the time of the bereft millions who have nothing to read until the gates fly open and the world's most missed writer bounces out. The first book by cult cartoonist Dr Parsons, who stalks the corridors of power and pomposity armed with crayons and coloured pencils like some small, bearded avenging god.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, daring, - a satirical cartoon of the sad truth..., 13 Dec 2002
PLEASE GET THIS!!! There seem to be too many people strangely brainwashed by this 'powerful' president and prime minister and their manipulative words - especially, it seems, America. This book is just incredibly funny, - it's one of those 'it's so true!' moments. Of course, it's ridiculous and cartoonish as well, but it's very clever and is a great example of the satirical and cynical streak in the British nature. I first came across dr Parsons at Brighton where he was taking part in 'The big draw' -( something which is going on at the moment to get people drawing...), and was signing some of his smaller satirical cartoons (not 'proper' books). We bought 'this is me, by georg bush' and thought it was hilarious, right down to the subtle 'comments' on the back cover, such as "make the dum peepul laff cuz they don't think for themselves" - Jim O'Neill, USA, "Anything that portrays the president in a bad light is EXTREMELY dangerous" - A very concerned American. All under the title "Praise for 'This is me, by georg bush' " of course.
After that, "Tony and me: by George Bush" didn't let us down - it's one of the best discoveries I've made all year! It's only just become available - be one of the first to discover it! So if you're feeling depressed about all the lies and manipulation going on in the world at the moment, and like me, feeling perhaps just a tad 'un-patriotic', have a good chuckle and feel better knowing there's someone out there like you! You'll love it, I promise, right along with the original and childish cartoons. (Just be careful who you show it to!)...

5.0 out of 5 stars darkly hilarious, 17 Dec 2002
By A Customer
You probably couldn't get many reads out of this book, but it works brilliantly on a first reading. Satire can be pretty unfunny and "finger-wagging" sometimes, but this book is satire at its best and most simple. I read half of it in a bookshop (it's only a little book) and I laughed out loud at every page. I'd imagine that the only people who wouldn't find it amusing would be hardcore US Republicans who maybe are members of some rifle association. And Alistair Campbell might take umbrage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crass, Class hilarity, 24 Mar 2003
By A Customer
This is the book for simple people like you and me who simply want a light hearted read with the odd ounce of pant wetting hilarity. This book is totally fictional yet you cant help but believe at times that George Bush really did write it. Its one of the few books that can make you laugh without slipping into vulgar idiocy that anyone can come up with. A sheer wonder if you ask me, it deserves its place on my so far dull and serious bookshelf.

Politics, eat my shorts!

This book is hilarious, it made me laugh out loud on every page, and while it will not sustain many re-reads it is an excellent satirical piece. Read more
