Product Description

Product Description

The New York Times bestselling author returns with a gripping page-turner about a young college student whose path down the street of life takes a shocking turn. The second of three children and the oldest daughter, Leslie Beaudet has experienced more than she would ever be willing to share. To her Haitian immigrant father, Leslie was a princess who always deserved more than poverty. To her Black Indian mother, she was a source of pride and a reason to carry on. To her younger sister, she was an understanding ear and a sympathetic babysitter. To her older brother, she was nothing but a victim. To her peers and teachers at Dillard University, the beautiful, wide-eyed, and intelligent New Orleans native was a saint; determined, resourceful, and most likely to succeed. But when a string of New Orleans murders all begin to point in Leslie's direction, it becomes clear that no-one has understood her personal struggles or her secret craving for the power that has always escaped her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shannie, 21 Mar 2003

This book is amazing!!! There is so much happening, you'll be gripped and will have trouble putting it down!! It's a ghetto story with a difference. Leslie is an amazing and intricate character, this is the best book I have read in a long time. It has a great story, social commentary, thrills, fantasy, horror and history all in the one book. There's loads to get the average person thinking... This is definately a must in my eyes!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A WORTHWHILE LISTENING EXPERIENCE, 2 Sep 2002
By Gail Cooke (TX, USA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
From Omar Tyree, the New York Times bestselling author of "Flyy Girl" and "For The Love of Money" comes "Leslie," an audio novel set in mysterious New Orleans. Voodoo, drugs and murder permeate this tale about Leslie Beaudet, a beautiful co-ed of Haitian and Black Indian descent.

Leslie is the focal point of a spectrum of dreams and expectations emanating from a cast of entertaining characters who illuminate unique facets of African-American life in the cultural melange of the Big Easy. She is resourceful and determined in her quest for success, thus surprising those who thought they knew her. Like many, Leslie is complex and driven by fears of failure and feelings of powerlessness in controlling her fate.

Healther Alicia Simms' reading adds a pleasing auditory dimension, making Leslie a worthwhile listening experience.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not consistantly good, 14 April 2006

This review is from: Leslie (Paperback)
From the author of Flyy Girl which I had deemed as one of my faveourite books i was suprised at the poor quality of Leslie.

Dont get me wrong the plot was good, but i didnt feel that Leslies pain was described deeply enough for me to feel it or to sympathise with her - i think her pain should have been more extravagent to make her result in what she did towards the end.

And as for the ending i hated it. (And thats a word i rarely use)From my perspective i think its safe to say thats the worst ending i have ever read. Is it to make us wonder what becomes of Leslie? I dont know...there are some good aspects but the ending just completly tainted my opinion on the whole book.
