Product Description

Review

General Louis H. Wilson

26th Commandant of the United States Marine Corps and recipient of the Medal of Honor for actions in Guam

"Always Faithful" is an interesting and accurate account of the World War II war dogs and the brave and unique ability of their handlers. I was a Company Commander on Guam and can attest personally to their value. I encourage all Marines and others who wish to learn of the value and ability of the war dogs to read and enjoy the book.

Synopsis

The veterinarian and commanding officer of the WWII 3rd War Dog Platoon pays tribute to the four-legged soldiers who served in Guam as messengers and scouts and details his efforts to see them safely decommisioned and returned home.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice recounting of the bond between man and dog in war, 30 Nov 2001
By hrhodius@netvigator.com (Kapellen, Belgium) - See all my reviews
This book takes the reader from the training days of dogs and men to the Pacific theater front lines. It gives an insight in the workings of war dogs , their training and , unfotunately , the wrong perception that returning these dogs to civil life is impossible. It also gives a view on the dogs handlers and their own experiences.
The book is difficult to put down ,it reads from start to finish captivating at all times.
The minor regret one might have is that the efforts made by the writer to get the recognition for these dogs of war is only lightly touched upon. A great book on the friendship between animal and human.
