Product Description

The best-selling guide to overcoming creative blocks and unleashing a torrent of great ideas-updated for a new generation of problem solvers.. James Adams's unique approach to generating ideas and solving problems has captivated, inspired, and guided thousands of people from all walks of life. Now, twenty-five years after its original publication, Conceptual Blockbusting has never been more relevant, powerful, or fresh. Integrating insights from the worlds of psychology, engineering, management, art, and philosophy, Adams identifies the key blocks (perceptual, emotional, cultural, environmental, intellectual, and expressive) that prevent us from realizing the full potential of our fertile minds. Employing unconventional exercises and other interactive elements, Adams shows individuals, teams, and organizations how to overcome these blocks, embrace alternative ways of thinking about complex problems, and celebrate the joy of creativity. With new examples and contemporary references, Conceptual Blockbusting is guaranteed to introduce a new generation of readers to a world of new possibilities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Has withstood the test of time., 4 Aug 1998
By A Customer
I have been using this book with graduate students for more than 10 years. It is a deceptive book in its low cost and small size. It cannot be merely read; it must be experienced. Reflection about the key ideas illustrated by the exercises and how the reader can apply them to his or her life is also important. Adams incorporates theory and research as a basis for the "hands-on" experience. Some exercises do need to be up-dated (e.g., the telephone dial). I have reviewed many other books and have yet to find one to use in place of Conceptual Blockbusting.

4.0 out of 5 stars most practical creativity book I have ever come across, 8 Aug 2000
I discovered this book by accident six years ago - and stupidly lent it to a friend. Since then I have missed it greatly. I have used it's contents in several ways, but mainly with staff who have an inate inability to either recognise the need for change or recognise their own blockages. Some of the examples are now dated - but the messages just as relevant. It forced me to recognise my own blockages - and try to correct them.

2.0 out of 5 stars More blocks, less busting, 12 Dec 1998
By A Customer
If you're interested in learning about problems people encounter that keep them from being as creative as they might be, this book is for you. If you are looking for ways to overcome these problems and to be more creative yourself, look elsewhere.
