4.0 out of 5 stars Skywatching is amazing!, 19 Mar 2001

From the beginning of time, we have turned our eyes skyward with awe, curiosity & wonder.

Here is an accessible & authoritative guide to the heavens with up-to-date tables, diagrams, practical advice & techniques.

It is a thick book of fabulous photos, dot-filled charts & ethereal names. It gives us a fantastic view of skywatching through the ages, how things got their neames & how to see what we're looking at!

Good gift for someone starting to stare at the sky! ...

4.0 out of 5 stars a good introduction, 19 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Beautifully taken photographs and informative text ignites the fascination and curiosity of space that harbours in us all. There are surely few other books that can be as succesfully persuasive to a interested novice astronomer as this one. From our immediate solar system to deep space, all is comprehensively examined and explained in a way that both informs and prompts participation in the activity. Although clearly aimed towards the reader new to astronomy, I feel that this book would well deserve its place on any enthusiastic skywatchers shelf.

This is a beautiful, informative book with information for all ages. Covers the history of astronomy through various types of stars and star maps. Great for the beginner who wants good, clear information on all aspects of astronomy.
