This book is so good., 24 Jun 2002
If you don't read this book you will have little chance of fairing well in an unexpected violent street attack. I got this book because I was going away to south america in my gap year and not knowing what to expect I thought I'd learn a bit about how to defend myself, fourtunately I didn't run into any trouble, but none the less this book had prepared me: "Attack Proof" is basically an extremely well researched course on how to refine the skills of becoming a very good fighter, things like balance, co-ordination powerful strikes. But unlike any martial arts books I've seen or read, which I grant you isn't many (I'm not a metalist), this book doesn't try to teach you specific techniquies like a flying bird kick or nun-chucks swings, it teaches you how to make the most of the natural punches and kicks that we all instinctively throw in rows. The book guides you through the first stages of possible conflict, how to avoid it and how to finnish it. It has exercises throughout to bring the reader to a really high level of power, awareness, innate reaction speed and sensitivity. Sensitivity? - sounds strange, but imagine getting into a fight blindfold; thats lacking senses, the more you increase sensitivity the more easily you can deal with an attacker. If going off on one here abit but its only because I've been so impressed with the calm, experienced way that this book will help the reader to defend themselves. To sum up, this book is the business: fighting science for serious self defence, these guys (policemen, martial artists and the like) know their stuff, and they'll give a year's worth of lessons to save the life of your nearest and dearest for not alot of money. 'Nuff said.

Great life-saving book!!, 28 Jun 2001
This book really is something special. I have read other self-defense books and they seem to only give choreographed techniques that would be useless against a real assailant. This book provides a number of real life situations and pictures and diagrams aid the readers understanding of them. Some of the techniues however where difficult to do especially for elderly or pregnant women etc and would require a bit of practise before they could be performed in real life.

Absorb what is useful etc..., 27 Mar 2007
This book contains some excellent, usable combat principles, but also some frankly bizarre claims. Much of the technique makes genuine sense but the fact that the system is dressed up in deliberately emotive language will bother some readers, me included. If it could be interpreted as a martial art in its own right, with good and bad points, instead of a super system which "results in accelerated learning" as the rear cover claims then it would retain much more credibility. The pressure responses I have found to really work in alive training, open handed striking really does damage your hand less than using a fist and balance, looseness and sensitivity really are important. But ignore the nonsense about killing people with eye gouges (doesn't work - eye sockets are too strong to puncture with gouges), all high kicks being bad and not needing to learn how to grapple to survive against a grappler. Basically, apply the JKD system of intelligent appraisal and you will find that there is good material in here. I only wish they hadn't chosen to hype it up the the point where people would be reluctant to believe ANY of it. The basic combat principles are mainly sound. The hype is just silly. I am not attack proof having read this. Neither will you be.
