2.0 out of 5 stars A sloppy collection of drills, 3 Jul 2006
This book doesn't give you a solid understanding of offensive soccer tactics and principles; it throws in a word or two on each topic (such as challenging and creating space), and overloads you with useless drills...and these drills are of the form, "1 passes to 2, 3 dribbles around 1, etc"- what does it teach? nothing...there needs to be more principles/techniques...these drills would only give the players a superficial understanding of attacking in soccer

1.0 out of 5 stars couldnt understand it, 7 Sep 2009
By G. Stone "G Megson" (Bolton, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book was given to me by a group of concerned supporters. It arrived on my desk so i picked it up with interest and had a flick through while i dropped the kids off at the pool. It was all about 'offense' and 'attacking the space' and 'forward movement'. These concepts are a bit foreign for my liking, so i decided to purchase the 'Defensive Soccer Tactics' book instead. This was much more appealing. It listed the virtues of deploying 3 defensive midfielders and still asking the strikers/wingers too 'track back' and 'defend the space' left in midfield by the backtracking midfielders. It talked about statistical analysis and showed how a team could avoid relegation by playing for 38 0-0 draws and garnishing 38 points. This is especially true in the english premier league. The final chapter was the highlight though. It describes how to deal with frustrated supporters and contains useful phrases such as 'we were below Derby you know', 'they are just pathetic' and 'I took the club further in europe than any other manager in their history' a truelly worthwile read for any Premier league manager, 5 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Attack is better than defence, 26 May 2007
I bought this as a package with their defending book (also reviewed seperately) and felt this was the better of the two. I found that while both books tended to over elaborate on topics and make them more difficult to understand, and get players to understand, there were some useful elements. I am often looking for little drills to progress from a warm up into a full phase or game and found some good ideas here, more so with the attacking book rather than the defensive one.
Please be aware if you are working with young kids this is not for you. Equally if you like things as simple as possible (or if your players do more to the point) then maybe you will also not find much here.
