php open source, meets windows closed source. This book is a great starting point for anyone wanting to take their favourite php programming language and develop with it using windows technologies.Andrew has done a great job in explaining some of the latest windows techologies, and how as a developer you can use php to intergrate them into your applications. The book covers some of the latest .net technologies including web services,XML,ADO, Active directory,and com to name a few. The book is authoritve and detailed for anyone who is interested in php to gain a better understanding of how they fit togeather, with straight forward, easy to follow examples in every chapter.A good buy and a good read.

Coming from a VB/ASP background, I've been keen to get to grips with PHP for sometime - but there's been very little reading material available until now.

Being one of the first books (if not *the* first?) to be aimed towards "traditional" ASP programmers, 'PHP programming for Windows' gives solid examples and advice for this exciting open source technology, and also brought me up to speed surprisingly quickly.

If I had to make one small criticism - I did find some of the diagrams a little bland consisting of mainly screen grabs and dialogue boxes, but overall this is a minor point, they get the job done - which is the main thing.

Overall, this isn't a book for complete novices, as the pace can be quite swift at times, but intermediate to advanced programmers with a good VB/ASP background will find this book a good head start into the world of PHP.

Recommended.
