5.0 out of 5 stars A Really clear and useful book, 7 Nov 2003

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
I have read quite a lot of this book (it is thick) and found it excellent. It is easy to read, the author is direct and to the point, and very amusing in the way he clearly speaks from experience. He isn't afraid to point out that some things don't work properly - or as well as they could, anyway - and it really feels like one developer talking to another.

Highly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 22 Jan 2005
By A Customer
I'm reading this book at the moment for my last exam towards my MCSD. I've been using the other QUE books for each of the exams so far and have found them pretty good. This one has been a real struggle to get through though.

The text is very waffly, the author constantly repeats himself which makes it very tempting to skip big sections at the risk of missing an important piece of information. He also goes into great detail on many of the simpler topics and then sums up a complex topic in one sentence which adds to the frustration.

Though I think it's only fair to say that this book is probably going to be adequate to get me through the exam (which is why I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1), it's not a book I'm going to want to refer back to in the future and I'd recommend looking into alternatives first.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not particularly stunning., 31 Aug 2004
Having read 3 previous books in the Que range which got me through the relevant exams, I found this one disappointing. The author tries to inject some humour into the book - it's a text book for goodness sake! Some of the test questions were ambiguous, and certainly repeated. Certainly doesn't rate as highly as other Que books.

That's a low score, considering I've just used this book to pass the exam.

Over the past three weeks I've read this book cover to cover in preperation for 70-229. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful, and well written...but not enough on its own
A useful book, with some chapters written in a manner amusing enough to liven up the subject matter.
I used it mainly to 'dip into', and for the test questions. Read more
