Product Description

Back to the User integrates Web design, navigation and content considerations with effective branding and marketing guidelines. By teaching those that create websites how to think like the people who use them, this book enables web marketers and developers to create sites that people want to, and can successfully, use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Teaches an old dog new tricks, 29 Jul 2002
By TheGeneral (London, UK) - See all my reviews
At first you might think 'I know a fair amount about web designing but let's see what LITTLE bits of info I can pick up?'

Be surprised as this book highlights a lot of mistakes and assumptions, which we all might take for granted. It features lots of the top websites we all know and may use, then shows us why they've made errors in layouts, designing and even the proper descriptions for an item.

The best part about this book is finding out how users see websites differently from the designers/owners point of view. You'll find examples of where a user would read what designers class as 'obvious' but see it as something completely different, which can mean a lot of lost revenue if they choose not to select it!

It certainly made me appreciate how users should ALWAYS be involved in the design process from beginning to end. This idea was implemented recently in an Intranet re-design, which now the users have been involved more, they are much more happier with the result and I feel it is something they can all use and understand.

My only slight problem with the book is that some of the sections do seem to drag on a bit and has a tendancy to make you want to skip pages whenever possible. Apart from that it is a MUST if you want to create sites which you are totally confident with.
