5.0 out of 5 stars A fine introduction to ultradev for dreamweaver users, 6 Oct 2001
If you wanted one book on Ultradev, this will service very well both as a reference and how-to manual. There is a great introduction to the technologies Ultradev supports: JSP, ASP and CF with pros and cons of each, something most books skim over, and will make it easy to decide what HTML pre-processor you want to use if you are unsure.

It includes hints and tips for windows and macintosh users, setting up your web and application servers (the hardest thing about using ultradev) as well as discussions on SQL (including how to pronounce SQL).

It finishes up with a few sample ecommerce and learning sites, covering server behaviours, something skimmed over by most Ultradev books of its size.

When databases get mentioned, the rate of acronyms increases dramatically, so the index and glossary of related terms are excellent additions.

The only criticism I have is there is no mention of PHP, but that is entirely understandable as Ultradev 4 doesn't natively support it, so it doesn't affect the rating I'm going to give to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you're new to UltraDev, this is the one for you!, 16 Feb 2002
By A Customer
After reading a few other UltraDev guides, I began to think that there were no decent tutorial books about UltraDev on the market - how wrong I was!

This book is simply fantastic, clearly written with plenty of illustrations and information for when things don't quite work out or you believe you have made an error. The files that are required for the tutorials are downloadable from the book's website, and are relatively small so even a modest internet connection will be able to handle them.

This book really opens your eyes to what can be achieved with UltraDev 4!
