4.0 out of 5 stars Not for a beginner, 19 Sep 2005
This is quite a good book. It's based on the beta 1 version of ASP.NET 2.0. The current version is beta 2, there are small differences between the two (e.g. the book says you can use an authentication wizard with either MS Access or SQL server, but the MS Access option was dropped for beta 2).
The book gives a very good general overview of the new framework. It doesn't go into huge detail, but generally there is enough information for you to make what is being explained work in practice.
The language used by the book is C#, and I am more used to VB so I struggled a little with conversion of some of the examples. The book assumes a more than basic level of familiarity with version 1 of the .NET framework. Frequently it compares the v1 with v2 and shows what the improvements are.
Buy it if you are already an accomplished programmer and want a fast introduction and overview to ASP.NET 2.0. Otherwise wait a few months for the new raft of "ASP.NET 2.0 for vb.net for beginners" books that will doubtless appear.

1.0 out of 5 stars Obsolete, written for BETA version of ASP.NET/Visual Studio 2005, 2 Jan 2007

(REAL NAME)
This book was written for Asp.Net/VS2005 BETA and quite a lot has been changed in the final release, which means you will have to struggle to get the very basic things work ... I am an experienced person and still struggled to get the configuration right and had to resort to MSDN library ...

Though the contents and structure of book are good but would not recommend to anyone, let alone beginners to intermediate level developers.

Always look for publishing date before you buy a book!
