5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to XML, 22 May 2002
By A Customer
This is the second edition of a book which won the top award in the 2000-2001 International Technical Publications Competition. I am usually suspicious of such awards but I do think this book deserved it.

It is well set out, clearly written with plenty of easy to follow examples taking you through 'document type definitions' and 'schemas' for the production of xml documents, followed by informative chapters on the further techniques required to enable you to use these documents as a basis for WWW pages and for other purposes.

I knew nothing about XML but after an initial skimming of the book and then further detailed study I felt it gave me all I needed to start planning a XML project with some confidence. Accompanied by a useful CD.

I can certainly recommend it to anyone beginning XML providing they have a knowledge of html especially. Some knowledge of a scripting language will also help get the idea of the uses to which XML documents can be put.

4.0 out of 5 stars clear and simple, 6 Aug 2004

This book is very good for someone who doesn't know anything about XML. I found it very easy to read, straight forward and simple. I didn't know any thing about XML when I picked this book up, however within hours of reading it I became confident in writing and manipulating XML Bottom line is you don't know XML, read this book and you WILL know XML.
