4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book for the novice on Visual Basic 6.0, 6 Nov 1999
By S. T. Moore (Leicester, Leicestershire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Prior to reading this book, I had no knowledge of programming. This book gave me access to this area of computing by building confidence from page 1. I would recommend this book to any person who wants to begin to programme. It begins with the writing of simple programmes that build confidence, and then develops into more complex subjects without losing the readers interest. My only complaint would be that the author could have given the reader more information on the terms used in the book.

A book to develop the reader at their own pace, but with real world examples.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for Visual Basic beginners and enthusiasts, 9 Aug 2000
By A Customer
If you are new to Visual Basic or even completely new to Windows Programming, then this is the place to start. It starts you off with making basic things like casino games and artwork browsers, and then takes you into RTF Processing and ADO Objects and Coding. Once you're through with this and confident with the subjets coverd in it, you should definitely try "Advanced Microsoft Visual Basic 6" by the Mandelbrot Set, which takes advanced debugging, IIS, and other important areas into account for enterprise developing. Extermely well written and laid out with good practise files which you can refer back to for help via the book index if you are trying to remember a code syntax you need. Five stars. Top stuff for people like me, who are just entering secondary school and are starting programming aheadof the rest. However, people with experience will not find this useful as it covers only the basic topics and does not go very far into ADO and does not even touch IIS of DHTML. Good for the right people, is the final verdict.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Book to Buy, 5 Jun 2000
By A Customer
The book is clearly laid out and is best for the beginner who is new to VB. Experienced users should not buy this book, but as I was relatively inexperienced when I bought this it proved to be very usefull, with 19 different skill building lessons. It would help if it told you how to add sounds to your program, as it covers animation well. A good buy.
