What are you doing with your life?, 25 Sep 2003
Barbara Sher has answered that question. She is living her dream life, and encourages her readers to do the same. She writes openly and engagingly, and by the end of the book I had come to think of her as sort of a personal cheerleader in my own quest for the Big Dream. The strength of this book is not however, in Sher's accessable writing style, though that certainly is a plus. No, the best of this book is found in the exercises, which are designed not just to help the reader identify what it is that they long for, but also to figure out a way of obtaining those deepest desires. I spent a weekend with this book, a spiral notepad, and a couple of stacks of 3x5 cards. (Gotta love a book that encourages you to purchase stationary supplies!) Although I didn't, at first, see the point of some of the exercises, I did them all anyway and was amazed - blown away, really - by some of the things that I learned about myself. I won't say that this book will solve all of life's problems in a weekend, and of course you get out of these exercises exactly what you put into them. But for those willing to do some deep thinking about where they want to go in their life, this book provides an excellent road map for getting there.
