4.0 out of 5 stars The world's greatest batsman and his camera, 6 Nov 2001
By A Customer
This book is part diary and part pictorial account of the 1997-98 international season through the eyes of Steve Waugh. This period takes in tours to England, South Africa and most notably India.

The format of the book is simple: a picture taken by Waugh and then a brief description of the character or incident it depicts. The old adage that 'a picture tells a thousand words' certainly rings true in this book. Steve Waugh captures the emotions that are involved with representing your country, largely because of his position in the team and the 'behind the scenes' access this gives him.

The stories and pictures of teamates are humourous and exhibit the different characters in the Aussie changing room well. Look out particularly for evidence of the infamous beard growing contest and any photgraph of Merv Hughes.

It's the images Waugh took in India however, that are the most poignant and revealing of Waugh's character. Unlike some cricketers to tour India (Phil Tufnell once said, "Done the elephants, done the poverty, might as well go home".) Steve Waugh embraces the country's culture and is able to relate to the people he photographs.
