Product Description

Synopsis

This is the first new title in the "Honor Bound" series since 1999, featuring Cletus Frade.1943. Argentina is officially neutral, but crawling with every type of spy. OSS Chief Wild Bill Donovan asks Frade to set up his "official-but-really-OSS" airline in Argentina with loaned aircraft from the USA. Woven into this are two German operations in which the OSS are more than interested. The first is a scheme for relatives abroad to purchase the freedom of those inside Germany in concentration camps and transport those former prisoners to Argentina and Uruguay. The second plan involves the use of the monies arising from the first to fund Operation Phoenix - a safe haven scheme for senior Nazi officials in Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. Can Frade find out more, without getting himself killed, and help those who deserve it?

4.0 out of 5 stars For Military and Espionage Buffs, 30 April 2009
This review is from: Death and Honour (Hardcover)
When you read this book, the author's thorough knowledge of WWII history and military culture becomes quite apparent. Details of military protocols, fighter planes both German and American, civilian planes, the various levels of officers both German and American, types of armament, etc, are all penned down in meticulous detail. For the most part the plot takes place in South America in Argentina where the Americans have a contingent of OSS officers and the Germans have their own spies all pretending to be someone other than who they are and doing something other than what they are doing. Everyone is suspicious and distrustful of the other guy and his motives. There are powerful German plots among those who believe in the failure of the war effort, and I don't want to give these away. The Americans have their own aims. Most of the book takes place through conversation. There is not much action but lots of intrigue. The Griffon Trilogy: Pt. I

2.0 out of 5 stars over complicated book with strange morals, 24 Oct 2009

Not up to Griffins normal standard. Over complicated and boring at times. Pity as I have read all his books, in all the various series. This one I did not enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Death and Hono, 1 Oct 2009
Another great novel in the series - As with all series novels, quite a lot is a "hash" of previous titles and the plot got a little strained with the son of the commericial attache (who wanted to be interned rather than sent back to Germany)a. being captured and in USA, and b. being an active conspiritor in the kill Hitler plot. Other than this the usual great blend of real history and characters
