Product Description

Review

"Her writing style is mellifluous, her understanding of high-stakes currency trading authoritative yet unobtrusive, and her action scenes snap - making this a financial thriller with bull, not bear, written all over it." Publishers Weekly on Next of Vipers "A high-speed financial thriller that spans the globe from London to Southeast Asia." Library Journal on Wilderness of Mirrors "An immensely entertaining fiscal thriller notable for its exotic locations." Kirkus Reviews on Wilderness of Mirrors"

Product Description

When love goes wrong, death is the most final settlement of all. Morganna Hutton is a young artist, beautiful and rich. When she falls in love with the handsome Archie Edge, she thinks he is the answer to her prayers, until the nightmares begin. But the love of money is the root of all evil, and wickedness in glamorous disguise stalks this compulsive book. From the grand houses of Long Island to the wilds of Scotland, we follow Morganna, first in her quest for love and then for justice...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read but quite unlike her previous books, 12 May 2007
By S. A. Davies (Essex, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this book because I had read all Linda Davies' previous books and I like thrillers centred around the financial world. Initially I was disappointed because this book has nothing to do with the City or dealing or banking and is therefore a complete departure from her other books. However that said it is well written, with rounded believable characters and once the scales fall from the heroine's eyes about her new husband and his evil mother it becomes very gripping and hard to put down. Reminded me to a degree of Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier but definitely based in the modern world. Altogether a good read with a feeling of menace always lurking in the background.

2.0 out of 5 stars What happened to Sarah Jensen/Cassie Stewart??, 25 May 2007
By Nicki (London) - See all my reviews
I've read Nest of Vipers, Wilderness of Mirrors and totally loved them. I could read them again and again. Something Wild was disappointing because it totally deviated from her previous 'banking' books. Her latest - Final Settlement is also disappointing. Davies has set such a high standard with her first two novels but branching out into romance is just not her. Davies should 'bring' Sarah Jensen (as well as the Governor of the Bank of England and the Director of MI6)and Cassie Stewart (as well Eva Cunningham)back in new stories where the plot centres around the world of banking, the world which Davies knows so well.

1.0 out of 5 stars her stock is in a nosedive, 9 Jun 2007
By Julia M. Walker (NY Finger Lakes) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As the other reviewers suggest, this book is a shock for Linda Davies' fans. Gone are the strong women of her earlier books, also missing the wonderfully detailed insights into the world of high-stakes finance/banking. All that Morganna Hutton (such a trite name) knows about money is how to spend it. Oh yes, she paints a bit, too.

This is a romance, not a thriller. What's with this trend of great thriller-writers selling out to produce pulp romances? Michelle Spring did the same thing last year with The Night Lawyer. It's maddening! Weren't the good novels selling well enough?

Here's hoping that Davies comes to her once-sharp senses and gives us more strong women and dangerous action.
