5.0 out of 5 stars flight to prison, 2 Aug 2007
By bart4books "db" (bristol, england) - See all my reviews
This is one of Peter Lovesey's best books. It is an absolutely rip roaring yarn and yet it is also based around real events, indeed a real life mystery. If you do not know about Rudolf Hess this book alone will tell you most of what has been discovered about his life, despite all the cover ups, and you will be amazed by it.
Why was this one man kept in a prison made for 700 men on his own for twenty years at a cost of £800,000 a year? Why have the British, American, French and Russian governments colluded to suppress the whole story for over sixty years?
Lovesey cleverly questions the 'official' version of events without compromising his own story, weaving the detail into his mystery seamlessly. You must read it.
