3.0 out of 5 stars The story's good but the whole thing works better on screen., 3 Jun 2000
By A Customer
As a life long fan of the series, I jumped at the chance to read this book (it was in my school library). All the characters and events are the same - they are adapted to the book really well, BUT,,, the whole style and attraction of the car chases, action, jumps etc works much better, obviously, visually rather than in text, so unfortunately, for this reason the book loses a lot of impact. However, it does very well in leading up to the climax of Bo fighting to win the Daytona 500 race to save the farm - I could feel the tension and suspense building up inside me as Bo keeps the General Lee hard on target while fighting off Boss Hogg and Rosco (yes, ON the TRACK!) and ends up having to save their lives. "Boy, you did the bravest thing I've ever seen anybody do..." Uncle Jesse. It also explains how the cousins, Coy and Vance eventually come to replace Bo and Luke.... a sensitive emotional ending,,, with conviction!
