Product Description
Book Description
This new book is an excellent introduction to orthodontics for the undergraduate, using a problem based learning approach. It provides a visual means of testing knowledge in a subject commonly found difficult by students. The well-illustrated text explains the basic principles of orthodontics, the application of different appliances and the management of common problems. The superb colour illustrations will also make this a valuable tool for the General Dental Practitioner, when explaining problems and treatment plans to the patient. In addition, it provides a firm foundation upon which the postgraduate orthodontic student can base further study and for those studying for MFDS and statutory examinations.

Synopsis
"Orthodontics: Picture Test Atlas" follows a logical format with clearly presented chapters. Included in the contents are chapters on ideal occlusion, examination and diagnosis, treatment planning, pathology and common problems and solutions.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent, informative series of orthodontic questions., 27 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This book is an excellent addition to other recent texts on orthodontics.
The self assessment picture test format is designed to test the reader on orthodontic diagnosis and clinical management. The style of presentation is such that it can be "dipped into" rather than read cover to cover. Quick and easy access to the answers is made possible by clear numbering of the questions. The layout of the material will be of particular help to individuals preparing for the MFDS examination.
A large number of clinical photographs, radiographs, cephalometric tracings and appliance designs all help to make the book both inviting and motivating to work through.
The text is divided into ten chapters which provide well balanced coverage of the subject of orthodontics. The first three are concerned with the ideal occlusion , examination and diagnosis and treatment planning. This is followed by a substantial chapter on pathology. Chapters five to seven test knowledge on removable, fixed and functional appliances. There are two chapters on anchorage and retention and a further chapter on problems encountered during orthodontic treatment.
While undergraduates will find value in this book the contents will certainly be useful for postgraduates, specialist practitioners and general dental practitioners. It is an excellent complement to, but not a replacement for, witten orthodontic texts.
