Product Description
Product Description
This book covers a remarkable range of well-referenced information, offering both breadth and some depth without overwhelming the reader. It contains numerous case studies, critical thinking exercises and clear colour illustrations. It moves from the general to the specific and deals with basic nursing concepts and then moves on towards specialism. It is organised in four main units--the first covers the principles of psychiatric nursing care including role and functions, models of care and the therapeuticrelationship and the context in which psychiatric care is practised in the UK. The educational philosophy of care is health oriented and this unit reflects this. Unit Two looks at where psychiatric care is provided: at home, in day centres, in hospital settings. With the move towards care in the community, emphasis is given to the continuity of care and this unit reflects the needs of UK practitioners. Unit Three then applies these principles in practice and considers the nursing interventions for a range of mental health care needs of individuals due to a wide range of conditions. Unit Four considers the main treatment interventions offered in the UK. The book concludes with Unit Five and the future of mental health care.
