Product Description
The Tale of Peter Rabbit was first published by Frederick Warne in 1902 and endures as Beatrix Potter's most popular and well-loved tale. Re-originated in 2002 to mark the centenary of publication bringing it closer to the original edition, six illustrations were restored, four that were removed in 1903 to make room for endpapers and two that have never been used before, Beatrix having initially prepared more illustrations than could be accommodated in the original format.

About the Author
Written and illustrated by Beatrix Potter (1866-1943). Her passion for the natural world lay behind the creation of her famous little books. A particular source of inspiration was the Lake District where she lived for the last thirty years of her life as a farmer and conservationist.

This review is from: The Tale of Peter Rabbit (transcribed into Egyptian Hieroglyphic script) (Hardcover)
When I was little, I loved the stories of the pyramids of Egypt and Pharoahs and all that malarkey and I'm sure I'd've loved this book. The mistake made with it is that the text is only in hieroglyphs without comparison English text, meaning that it is difficult to compare and contrast and maybe even learn something without using two texts side by side.
Kids love trying to work things out and if this book had both English and Hieroglyphs this would be a definite five-star idea for the inquisitive mind of a child. As it is, I think it's a bit of a missed opportunity.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit was written in 1900 and has stood the test of time very well. Generations of children have loved the story and treasured the books of Beatrix Potter. It is up there among the greats of children's literature with Wind in the Willows, The Water Babies, Peter Pan, Treasure Island and many others.

In these days of computer games and electronic toys of one kind or another, books sadly are sometimes not as high on the list as they were a few years ago, perhaps that is why literacy in schools is not all that it could be. Personally as a child books were always my first love and Christmas would not have been the same without a Rupert annual.

Stories that involve animals as the main characters in books always seem to fascinate young children and Peter Rabbit has always been up there with the best. Next time you have to buy a present for a child, or even want to treat one of your younger grandchildren for no particular reason. Instead of looking for the latest DVD why not buy them a book. Peter Rabbit is a good one to start with.

The children like this story. I love it though. When I read it aloud I hear my own parents' voices in my head and I follow the same metre and modulation that I remember from my own childhood. Why do I love it so? inly, the use of language still tingles. In these days of measured calculation in education, no one would dare write a book for pre-schoolers featuring the word "soporific" Hooray.
