Product Description

Pilates is a holistic exercise system which is becoming increasing popular - it is being called "the new Yoga". Once used solely by dancers and models, this technique devised by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s is onefo the latest fitness phenomenons. This book gives ten unique 15-minute Pilates sessions to get the reader through the day. It focuses on different ways to use and develop Pilates, leading to increased body awareness, greater flexibility and stamina, and less stress.

1.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat Dissapointing, 15 Sep 2001
By A Customer
Unfortunately Lesley seems to be going over the same old ground in all of her books. This book offers nothing new from any of her other ones. Instead it appears to be just a cut down version of one of her other main books -Body Power. While there is nothing actually wrong with this book, it just lacks significant substance :( I wouldn't really recommend this book to newcomers of Pilates as I don't think they would really know where to start, but some intermediate users may find it helpful if they want a re-cap on some of the exercises.

2.0 out of 5 stars A great book ruined by insufficient photographic direction, 31 May 2001
By A Customer
Lesley Ackland is clearly passionate about Pilates and more specifically Body Maintenance, her own interpretation of the system. The introduction to the book is incredibly motivating and one cant wait to reach the excercises themselves. I have been doing Pilates matwork for about 6 weeks now and was looking for a book that broke down good routines for morning, daytime and evening. Although I am slightly more familiar with Pilates movement than someone who has never taken a class, I am unable to decipher the correct movements from the photographic directions given. Each movement could do with another 2 pictures each at least. Otherwise the style of writing is pleasing and engaging and I will try my best to figure out the routines she details.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is no good for beginners., 14 Feb 2000
By A Customer
If you already know about Pilates and have done some of the excercises, then you can probably work from the book. If you have not done any then this is not the book for you. The descriptions are not clear enough, and the photographs do not add the extra clarity needed. The book called 10 step so I expected a programme. What there is is a lot of excercises with no advise on how to put them together in a programme. Steps 1,2 3 are morning afternoon evening, then it goes onto specific part of the body. It is unclear whether you should do everything, do step 1-3 as maintenence and build up or use the other 7 steps if you have specific problems. For beginners, more guidance amd explanations is needed. Since getting the book, I have read the reviews of earlier books by the same team and the same comments were made about usability, explations and programmes. This book makes all the same mistakes.
