A fantastic resource for every parent of a young baby, this book helps to make sense of those days when your infant seems to do nothing but cry. Once you know that it is linked to a developmental phase and that there is a reason things seem more bearable, I found.
The phases in this book were uncannily accurate (almost to the day) for all four of our children, and proved to be similarly accurate for the several friends to whom we have lent it, to the extent that one mother went through her diary and noted when the book predicted a stormy period so that she would know not to plan anything which needed her baby to be calm or placid on those days!
The book uses the experiences of a large number of babies/parents to extrapolate the developmental phases and likely behaviour of babies at particular ages up to 1 year, coming up with a table of when an infant is likely to have sunny or stormy times, an explanation of why and some helpful strategies to use to help them through each stage. I only wish it went beyond 12 months; it would be a useful tool to have for my 8, 6 and 4 year olds too!
