Synopsis
The Mesolithic and Neolithic collections at the National Museums & Galleries of Wales provide much of the basis for our understanding of life in Wales from the end of the Ice Age to the beginning of metalworking. During these seven millennia, the foundations of our modern lives were laid as hunter-gatherers began the taming of the landscape, agriculture was adopted and long-distance exchange networks were established. Part 1 of the "Catalogue" includes essays outlining the main themes of the periods and putting the finds and the sites into context. Part 2 comprehensively catalogues over 1,200 assemblages, listing each object, its location and the circumstances of its discovery. The whole volume is indexed by place, period/site type and artefact type. This long-awaited volume is an essential resource for the study of 7,000 years of Welsh history.
