Product Description

Product Description

This work takes a look at how different cultures around the world have handled death and given it its meaning. Some cultures, for example, Ancient Egypt, virtually bankrupted themselves to deal with the death of a single person; others simply pull down the roof on the corpse and walk away. The book shows how much of even the most exotic practices and themes can be relevant to all.

By A Customer
An excellent book exploring the wonders of death globally, his writting style really kept me intrigued and engaged until the very end. It was just as good as 'Notes from a Mud Hut' if not better, and is just as witty and humourful, with ancedotes about the grieving process cross-culturally it really makes you reflect upon your own practises e.g. Irish wakes and English funerals, and the extent to which the treatment of death is culturally constructed- e.g. the wailing practises in Zambia. Throughly recommended for a funny read with brains.
