Product Description

Product Description

This history of the English folk revival argues that the existence of the revival is a direct and urgent response to a cultural crisis caused by the pressures of industrialization and urbanization. This work was the winner of the Katherine Briggs Folklore Award, 1993.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Imagined Village, 20 Oct 2003
This is the first academic book I have read dealing solely with the revival of traditional music in Britain. It details the historical happennings and throws up, sometimes controversial, opinions and questions. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it gave me plenty to think about, but it was quite hard work!!!
