Product Description

Discover how to draw and paint awe-inspiring fantasy vehicles, from futuristic dream cars to magical floating ships and alien spacecraft, in a wide range of traditional and digital media. The main directory is a great mechanical workshop of fantastical designs to copy and adapt to your own specifications: each features a breakdown of basic constructional shapes, sketched outline drawings, and a fully-rendered finished artwork with close-ups of complex details. Ten super-simple starter models allow you to start drawing straight away, and a core techniques section gives step-by-step instruction in methods of drawing, colouring and shading, creating metallic and textured effects, implying scale, and depicting motion to create dynamic fantasy art.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another masterpiece from the great Kieth Thompson :), 28 Oct 2009
By T. Noble (Stafford, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If your looking for uninspired silver cars with hover-wheels then this isn't what you need, granted, but frankly this guys stuff is original, wierd and wonderfully stylized. I have every one of Kieth Thompsons books and he is without a doubt one of my favourite concept artists and as 3D character artist myself, I take alot of inspiration from this stuff. If your not sure it's for you, check out his website and look at his work, you'll get the jist in no time. Well written, well presented, inspirational and down right creepy. Winner.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too many organic designs and too eclectic, 14 Aug 2009
While the other book in this series 50 Robots to Draw and Paint: Create Fantastic Robot Characters for Comics, Computer Games and Graphic Novels was excellent throughout, this book deviates a little too far from the subject.

When one thinks of Vehicles, even in fantasy art, one expects to see vehicles. In this book there are way way (again I emphasise WAY) too many organic designs. Perhaps I should have guessed from the cover, but I was looking for more futuristic designs rather than half-fish bicycles.

There are a few spacecraft and rocket car type designs, but alas too few to make this book worthy of recommendation if that is your interest.

One saving grace is the detail and thoroughness of the '50 robots' book is copied here. Each design is well covered across one or two whole pages.

To Sum Up: An ecletic choice of designs for vehicles, many of which are too wierd to be useful.
