Product Description

Formed of ancient sediments and volcanic outpourings, then sculpted by ice into a mosaic of mountain, loch and sea, the landscape of the region is as weird as it is wonderful. Blessed with a climate where moisture and light combine with infinite variety and contrast, this is paradise for the dedicated photographer. The heart of the North-West Highlands, Wester Ross encompasses the open hill country of Kintail, the exquisite beauties of Lochalsh and Plockton, the bold peninsula of Applecross, the mountain castles of Torridon and the extensive coastal fringe with its remote headlands, sandy beaches and scattered settlements. The region terminates in the gaunt hills of Coigach and the bristly ridge of Stac Pollaidh. Ever-present in its seaward views, the Isle of Skye has a romantic attachment for people throughout the world, captivated by its colourful history and desolate beauty.

About the Author

Born in Leeds in 1918 Clarrie Pashley moved to Scotland in 1972, and settled in Lochcarron with his wife Barbara. After his retirement he took up hillwalking, and now dedicates his time to capturing the infinitely varied beauties of the region on film. His work has appeared in countless books, brochures and magazines. Martin Moran is a well-known mountain guide and author. He has lived and worked in the area for over fifteen years, and has written several books, including the acclaimed Scotland's Winter Mountains and The Munros in Winter. His mountain photographs of the Torridon and Cuillin Hills are the perfect complement to Clarrie's rich collection. Martin lives with his wife Joy and their two children in Strathcarron.
